Actually, they aren't. The food has improved over the past 6-8 months. It's still not perfect - there is still the odd off dish - but those who fly VS regularly are relieved that the food has become something better than a dog's dinner.

Great TR - Thanks for an excellent read!

I always found VS appetizers and deserts to be very good and their mains to basically often resemble and taste like the kind of food my dog would refuse to eat...

Fantastic report. The buffet in DOH F lounge looks ridicolous. La Grande Dame also, how was the 1998? How does it compare to the Krug?

I see Virgin are still serving dire junk :o

Having sampled both - IMHO - Krug has always been and will always be Krug... The Grande Dame is a wonderful champagne, but it isn't Krug...

Remember the days not so long ago when what we called Old First today on BA was shiny and new and they actually served Krug and Caviar on First?

I used to fly BA35/36 MAA-SIN-MAA back then and BA was just exquisite...

Yes, appetizers, salads, soups, & deserts/cheese are the way to go on many carriers these days (some in F too - even the likes of CX/TG serve some real duffers) but VS have improved their mains....a little...now then, if they weren't wasting money on red shoes they could throw some cash at J class catering ;

And to the OP - very enjoyable trip report - thanks for posting!

I knew there was a reason why I was drawn to this thread...I've just been reading the SFO-LHR segment and what did I find?? Yeah, finally a photo of my flat taken from the air!! I should probably add that I live about a mile west of Terminal 5 and often check LHR reports to see if anyone's managed to capture my abode from above. So far this is the first that I've found, so thanks!

Great report so far...going to get back to it now.

Thanks for the comments, folks!

For those of you that were waiting for the trip report to be complete before reading it, it's all there now!

Great work lucky. Looks like you had a great trip there with a different mix of carriers.

To VS Clubhouse at LHR is pretty nice. Shame I've been stuck in the SAS Lounge nearby recently.... ;)

Great report, with fantastic detail. The T3 Clubhouse does look fantastic - and that fantastic array of bottles of La Grande Dame in the QR Premium Terminal had me thirsty.

Sadly I'd just finished enjoying your report when I saw the link to your post on the Aeroplan award level increases. That is NOT good news... :(

How to book the virgin award tickets?

Hi Lucky,

Very nice TR. I really enjoyed your commentary and photos. However, I have a question about how you got miles for the Virgin tix. I went to the ANA tool (which is I assume that's what you used), and it only pulls up UA flights when I search SFO-LHR. How do you find the Virgin tickets, and can you redeem UA miles for a flight on Virgin Atlantic? If not, which miles did you use to get the Virgin flight?

Thanks.

You can check Virgin Atlantic award availability through virginatlantic.com, though you have to create a Flying Blue account. I booked my award through All Nippon Airways, which is a transfer partner of Membership Rewards and SPG.:)

Thank you, lucky. This is great to know! I currently use my AMEX for Costco refunds, but maybe this is something I should look into. Thanks.
