The last unconverted B747: UA SFO-ORD Business upper deck and some good eats!

I learned of the last unconverted B747 of UA on FT. I heard that they had pulled it out of the desert airplane graveyard and brought it back to service for domestic routes. I wanted to try it. 15A was the "prime" seat, as I remember, in the upper deck. We gave it a go, and it was very nice. The plane did not seem old at all, other than the bad paint.

We flew the B767 lie flats to, and the B747 old configuration fro. The food, surprisingly, was quite good. I think UA took a page from CO's playbook with the soup. The soup adds a lot to the meal, no question.

We also took advantage of some fine dining in Chicago, so we've included some shots of the food there. Molecular gastronomy, as they call it, seems to be much bigger in Chicago than it does in San Francisco. They have some incredible cuisine, and I've included some shots of the very inventive food that they have there. Chicago definitely has some great food. It is a wonderful city.

Hope you enjoy it my video trip report!

You captured the starting of the PW4000 engines sound very well on the 763, wish you were sitting in the lower deck on the 744 and did the same.

Great Vid, I am a great fan of the United cradle seat, I found them very comfortable and even cosy and always looked forward to my return flights to the UK from the US with 2 quick drink runs, dinner and lights out.

Thanks for all the nice comments. If there were only one place to go, it would definitely, 100%, hands-down, be Alinea. It is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. The others are fantastic, and are stellar in there own rights. However, Alinea just is a whole new level with molecular gatronomy, the presentation, the experience. You will never have a meal similar to it except at other famous molecular gastronomy restaurants. It is truly creative, but it is also delicious. It is also the most expensive... :p

Just saw the video..... several juridictions block Youtube!:(

Great Report!^

Unfortuately, it is not possible to take photos and record video at the same time, otherwise I'd definitely want to do something similar.

I particularly like the videos of resturants you visited.....IMHO, travel trip reports should go beyond hotels and airplane photos/videos.

On a sidenote:

UA still has several 744s sitting in the desert, IIRC. It would be nice if the CO management can bring them back in the scheduled services under the new United.
