Great question.

My vote is for reports posted into the Trip Report Forum.

If the report isn't posted here, I won't ever see it. I use my computer for studies and am quite careful not to ever link to external sites. I know I'm not alone with this habit.

Frankly I'm confused at why people would want to post here, but not include their substance with the post. Cutting and Pasting is not that difficult. I'm not saying not to post externally, and even an summarized version on our site with a link would seem more appropriate. But, to each his (or her) own preference.

*cough* click-through-ad-revenue *cough*

Embedded is more user-friendly and tend to attract more readers and feedbacks.

PFKMan23 Jul 9, 2010 8:59 am

I also highly prefer embedded TRs that are posted here on FT.

TrayflowInUK Jul 11, 2010 1:01 pm

Embedded, no doubt.

Embedded and include pictures embedded as well ...

Much easier to read in one place ...

In addition, at least when I'm reading at work, alot of people's blogs are all blocked by my company as we are on a "whitelist" type filtering system.

I actually prefer blog links because then I can read and explore the rest of the blog too. Also presentation tends to be better.

Thanks for this discussion. I'd been wondering whether to follow lucky with blog posted TRs but the comments here convince me to stick with embedded FT reports.

I'll add my voiced (belatedly) to the chorus - embedded for sure. I don't read blog links much.

Deleted, I didn't think properly.

I've also seriously considered doing blogs of my photo trip reports. It would be easier for me to post all my photos in one place instead of individually linked them to this forum. However, when I started looking it from the reader perspective, I'd rather read all the trip reports here all in one place instead of bouncing around to different sites. For now, I am staying put.

You're making a huge mistake if you choose not to follow his reports, they're better than > 95% of embedded TRs.

Not sure what you mean? Yes, Lucky's reports have been excellent because of the contents not because they are blog posted elsewhere. Contents are still the king not the location of the TRs. Kiwi Flyer's TRs are great regardless where they are posted.

Whoops, I read what he said incorrectly, I thought he meant he didn't want to read lucky's reports. Wow that was dumb :(

Slight preference for embedded (blog-style with links can sometimes be easier for brief reading on the smartphone, though).

I'll put up with a bad physical layout for compelling, interesting TR content, though. Too many TRs and TR blogs make it seem as if the author(s) is/are traveling in a hermetically-sealed cocoon, having no interaction with the people and culture of the lands that they are so fortunate to be visiting. A good report lets me make the same trip vicariously - these are the reports that I seek out and cherish.

I hear you and have noticed that my last couple trip reports (links to my blog) have received much less feeddback than my embedded reports.

Still, embedding pictures--especially hundreds of them takes a lot of time.

And on a similar note, embedded photos are much more preferable (to me) than a link to a photo album. If you have too many photos add a couple relevant to whats in the text and have a link to the full album at the start or underneath.
I hate links too. Carfield, for example, writes EXCELLENT reports, but it annoys the heck out of me to only have a picture link each time I read one of his reports.

Agree. A follow-up question. Generally, I will not post a trip report until it is complete, even if it is multi-parts. Do you prefer a complete report at once or a gradual report that is posted as it is written?

For me, I've been posting blog links instead of embedding the reports to try to get people over to my blog (link below :D)) and read my other posts!

I don't know why you would be sacred on clicking through a link. Do you have a Mac or Windows XP/7? You're not going to get a virus.
