AF 083. SFO-CDG (Y class)

I arrived this morning in Paris, aboard Air France flight 083 from SFO. We landed 30 minutes ahead of schedule.

My father and I were going to France for vacation. We decided on Air France, because they have the only direct flight from SFO to Paris. We arrived at 1:00 for a 3:30 flight. We stood in the check-in queue for 20 minutes, and got our boarding passes.

I had checked us in 30 hours prior using OLCI, so that we could seat on the upper deck of the 747-400. We are not elite, so we paid around $95 person.
We had seats 66 A,C.

Security took about 20 minutes, so we were through by 1:40.
Boarding began at 3:10 from gate A7. We took our seats and waited for everyone else to board. At around 3:45, everyone was onboard. We had to wait for a few minutes, because a KLM 777 was behind us. We took off at 4:00 or so, and were on our way to Paris.

Amenity kits were handed out, as were menus.

The menu for this flight was as follows:

Orzo pasta with curry and grilled chicken. (Appetiser)

boeuf bourguignon with mashed potatoes

OR

Fillet of Pollock with tomato basil sauce and steamed rice.

I had the beef, as did my father. It was a somewhat small portion, but it was quite enjoyable.
I used the PTV, and watched The Bounty Hunter again, and read Medium Raw, by Anthony Bourdain.

About 1.5 hours out of CDG, a light breakfast was served. It consisted of cold cuts. It was ok, but I wish they had a hot breakfast before landing.
I would definitely fly with AF again to Paris.
I liked the upper deck, and it was worth the $95. The Legroom was more than adequate, and we are quite tall.

I was not able to get the tail number of the plane. I have bad vision, so I couldn't tell if it was F-GITE or F-GITC.

Hope you enjoyed this TR.

It's $95 just to sit on the upper deck of an AF 744 :o. Is that for an exit row seat?

How was FA service onboard?

Check out the seat map,http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air...ng_747-400.php

It is just Y upstairs.

"Air France charges an additional €50 to reserve a seat in the Upper Deck (rows 60-69). The fee is waived for Flying Blue Gold and Platinum members. Also, most aircraft feature a power port between each set of Upper Deck Tempo seats; however, the power has been deactivated on some aircraft. The Upper Deck has smaller overhead storage bins than those found on the main deck, but extra bins along the windows and near the stairs provide some extra storage space"

EU50 for a shot at a power port?

YMMV...

It was friendly, but not overly so.

They brought around water every hour or so.

And PTV in all seats on the upperdeck. Only certain aircrafts (5 if I remember correctly) have them on the lowerdeck.
