By any chance, did you go to ITASoftware and add up what all of those segments would have cost? You must have set some kind of record for how much your miles ended up being "worth" if calculated that way...

Not a great flight - all 18 hours of it - with stop in GRU..
That's a long flight time was it flying on one engine?

Bet you wish those awards were still going?

Good stuff macabus. ^

Thanks HIDDY,

Flying time was about 15 hours, but the stop in GRU added a bit more.

Probably closer to 16 hours total. Felt like 18 though.

It came out to over $40,000 if each segment was purchased separately. Probably be a lot less if booked as one ticket.

That same itinerary would now require well over 500,000 miles since AA change the rules last year.

Pretty exhausted, but frequent naps helped.

What a fantastic story. I think my favorite part is the JL agent at check-in. I can just see the look...

I had a little over 150,000 AA miles and knew that OneWorld awards were calculated on a destination-to-destination basis, regardless of routing. This has since changed.

When did the policy change? That sounds like quite trip -- I might have cashed in my miles to do the same!

Approx. how many miles would it require today to do this?

Great TR!

She gave me her card and said to call. I never called.
Any chance you can still make that call?
