48 Hours: JFK to MUC

In good weather, the flight from New York (JFK) to Munich via London can take as little as 12 hours. In bad weather, the trip can stretch to perhaps 15 or 20 hours. But the storm that last week buried much of the East Coast of the United States in a blanket of snow shut down major airports, closed thousands of businesses, and left tens of thousands of people stranded at places other where they wanted to be.

In my particular case, the storm, which set new records in many areas, took the 12-hour trip to London and turned it into a 48-hour marathon journey.

Am I reading that right...BMW makes an auto with a DIESEL engine? If so, I wonder if it will make it to North America?

You were lucky. A friend going on AA to Brussels waited 5 hours on the plane but got dinner. She then had to wait 5 days for the next AA flight. She had 5 suitcases and did not want to change.

Well over 50% of BMW new car production is comprised of diesel autos.

Did she go standby or try to get a confirmed seat?

5 suitcases? What didnīt she want to change?

I think one of the things that helped me was that the fact that I had no checked luggage, just a 22" Tumi Alpha Frequent Traveler and the Tumi Alpha T-Pass case. I was therefore able to remain airside as I didnīt have to reclaim any luggage (I would say 99% of all pax had to go reclaim luggage after all of the flights returned to the gate when JFK closed).
