Weird inquiry of relative on plane before pushback

I don't know why I suddenly thought of this lol. But, about 3 years ago I was on a Virgin Atlantic flight from JFK-LHR. After boarding finished but before they closed the door, a man in a suit walked down and asked my dad what his name was. He told him and the man said into his walkie-talkie "Mr. (My dads name) is on the aircraft," and then walked away and nothing happened after that. Just curious, anyone know what that might have been about?

They were reconciling the manifest. Sounds like your dad's BP scan didn't record properly back at the top of the jetway, and they wanted to double-check he was aboard. Simple enough.

Happens quite regularly. At least once a month I'm on flights that have this happen (and sometimes I'm the one asked, such as just last week).
