Airports near "Rough" Neighborhoods

LAX - is near Inglewood which is a rather rough and unsafe neighborhood.

Any others?

Driving certain directions out of OAK or ATL, one finds some not-too-inviting places.

Aren't all airports in bad neighborhoods?

The folks with money make sure the airports aren't built near them.

The noise from the airport drives the property value down on places that probably weren't worth a lot to begin with.

DCA! (I live in the ghettos of Arlington. As a matter of fact, I just did my weekly long run on a trail that passes right in front of DCA.)

MIA's surrounding area was kinda crazy when I was there at night in March...

ANC's is near Spenard which has a shady reputation too...

I'll agree with OverThereTooMuch, that most could qualify, well except those that suffer from NIMBY (SNA, SAN, etc )

Yup, one of those NIMBY (not in my back yard) issues...

The area around the Memphis airport is pretty awful unless you like nekkid bars. I'd advise against stopping for gas at night.

I can think of some foreign airports that you wouldnt want to venture far from such as Guatemala City or Johanseburg

Port au Prince, Haiti. Had a connection on the way to Martinique years ago. Didn't even leave the airport, but the thousands of cardboard shacks surrounding the airfield looked rather rough....

MSY in Kenner, Louisiana -- as far as I can tell, the principal industry of that fair city is crack cocaine. Oh, and quick access to the toothless and homeless hookers on Airline Hwy. I don't think anyone stumbles into Kenner by accident though. Just hop on the first shuttle that comes and go directly to New Orleans and you should be OK.

yeah, MEM scary place!

I thought the nekkid bars were closed by order of the U.S. Marshall's. I heard an entertaining rumor about $800K in cash on the floor of the home of the owner (manager?) of the now shuttered Platinum Club.
