No More Exit Rows for Me!
 

Yep. When Flying alone, I have found that the exit rows have become a disaster. Single flyers want these because of the extra legroom. However, when you have three adult males all in the same exit row, and all have 40+ inch chests that means that the shoulders will be more crowded. On my last flights where I was able to get Exit Rows, one of us had to turn slightly sideways in order for all to be relatively comfortable. And on an AA 757, I realized that the Exit Row Seats Seat is actually about 2-4" shorter than the Seat of any other row. I am not talking about pitch here but the actual length of the seat.

I have found that I am actually much more comfortable sitting in an aisle seat anywere else on the plane (other than First of course)

So, I will no longer be actively trying to book an exit row seat when flying alone. Hope you all enjoy them.

As a 6'3" and 250+ lb flyer, I couldn't agree with you more. I also have given up on the Exit Row because it's pretty much ALWAYS a full row of guys as big or bigger than me. As much as I need the legroom, the shoulder squash is just not worth it.

In any other row I have a much better chance of being seated next to the small, nice-smelling woman instead. Unless, of course, I'm on the same flight as the OP...in wihch case we're sure to end up seated together. ;-)

I've found that at least on United because the exit rows are often in Economy Plus (757, 319, 320 etc.) only elites can get access there. Often the middle seats stay empty. This was the case with my flight yesterday and many others this year. YMMV naturally.

I find exit seats a mixed bag. Love the leg room. But I miss the under-the-seat storage in front of me, and the more narrow seats are sometimes uncomfortable. Most comfortable exit row: Row 9 on the 757s.

The ones on AS are pretty good, especially on the NG A/C...

The 73G is however weird... with the one window having a vacant seat in the front...

Crazy question, but does someone HAVE to sit in an exit row to help in emergencies, or have you been on planes that were mostly empty and no one was seated in one?

On an upcoming trip husband and I booked exit row A & C, hope springing eternally no one is in B. If someone is, and we have to move, would you recommend A&B or B&C?

Completely depends on your preference for window or aisle, and the relative size of the third person who shows up to sit with you both.

I thankfully haven't had to ride in Y for a while now, but when I do, I would sill always take an exit row aisle. In the aisle seat, you can lean out into the aisle (just being sure to dodge the passing carts). :)

I sat next to a 2 year old two days ago. :D It was like having 2 seats..leg room wise. The only problem was.. she had 4 other siblings, and they all took turns crying all the way from MAD to YYZ.. :mad: It was not an exit row seat

Earlier this year, one girl in exit row switched seats with me flying on AC. The reason was because she needed a plug for her laptop. And the exit row seats do not have one.. :D
