IAD-FRA flight...how much of it will be while its dark?
I am flying IAD-FRA, leaving at 3:30 PM, landing at FRA at 5:30 AM. Since this leaves earlier than most east cost-Europe flight, about what percentage of this flight will be in the dark?

It depends on the time of year but I'd guess about half of it would be in the dark most of the year, more in the winter and less in the summer.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.51 Beta (Microsoft Windows; PPC; Opera Mobi/1718; U; en))
probably the same as other flights: the flight lands after sunrise so the amount of dark time is the same, and shades will probably closed anyway. i remember flying fra-sfo or muc-sfo with 2 sunsets in winter. |
Bring your eyeshades and the amount of cabin light won't matter (for sleeping, anyway).
Bring your own eyeshades (I like TempurPedic®). The ones in the amenity kits are way too tight and uncomfortable, IMHO. |
You will have only a very short night. At end of July sunrise at Frankfurt is around 5:50am but due to the fact that Europe much further North than the United States we have much longer dawn and dusk. So first light will be around 5:00am - 5:15am. Also keep in mind that depending how far North the flight route is you can get first light even earlier.
