I got mine back in 5 or 6 days (regular service), frankly I was shocked because the website says 4-6 wks I think...I don't know if this experience is typical though.

Then official policy is three added sets of pages. I had two sets added at the same time recently when the consular officer noted that I'd filled up the passport in 14 months after issuance. The third set I'll be getting in a few weeks. The passport is quite cumbersome with all those pages, so the fact that I must get a new passport when the third page set does not bother me too much. What does bother me is the cost and bother of doing it all. Pages added now, at least in soem locations, cost $30. I would always do it abroad if possible because it is same day service in almost all Consulates and they make appointments also.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the turnaround time is to get the new pages in and sent back. We sent the passports to the Philadelphia center. Obviously, we don't want to buy any tickets or make plans until we have the passports back. A Google search didn't turn up much good information other than, as others have said here, have it done in a foreign embassy if you want it done fast. Thnaks for any information.

I sent mine in for new pages 4 weeks ago. Still waiting as of today but I expect it back any day. Yesterday the on-line status changed from "processing" to "not found" so I presume they did 'something".

To get it back sooner you must call the National Passport Center at 1-877-487-2778 and offer to pay the $60 each ransom and $18 Express Mail charge. Then they will likely have them back in less than a week. If less time than that is required probably your only option would be to get new passports by appointment at a Passport Office of through an expediter.

This should settle the argument of how many new sets of pages can be added to a passport.:D

This gentleman said the US Embassy in Singapore DENIED his request for another set of pages for some unexplained reason.

Now THAT's a FAT passport!! I've got an appointment in HKG today to add pages to my brand new passport to beat the fee. Hopefully there won't be a problem.

I just got two sets of extra pages added to my non-RFID Passport, same day, as a walk in, no appointment, at the US Passport Office in Norwalk, CT about two weeks ago.

Pages were stitched in.

I've always thought extra pages were always sewed into the passport, instead of crudely pasted in.

The new pages are stitched to each other. 6 pieces of paper, folded together and stitched down the fold. Also attached to the fold. ~ Half inch wide, clear plastic tape "wings" which attach it to the passport by taping it in between two existing pages. Peel and stick. Soon to cost $82.

Where did you hear that? I see nothing about it on the DoS web site.

Proposed increases in U.S. passport fees

2010 Proposed Passport Fees (DoS announcement)

Sweet Willie Apr 20, 2010 7:37 am

thankfully they haven't gone into effect....yet.

DBoy Apr 20, 2010 2:31 pm

I've looked through this thread and all over the internet, but I can't find a date when the increase goes into effect. One report speculated in April. Anybody have more info?

nebratu Apr 20, 2010 3:02 pm

and I assume this fee increase will not affect you if you get pages added at an embassy while abroad?

giblet Apr 20, 2010 3:18 pm

Isn't there a maximum number of blank pages you can have left before you can ask for a refill? I've only got 4 or 5 but would like to use this time I'm stranded in DUB to get another refill.

Online fillable form (PDF) for additional passport pages: LINK.

As to "when" for new fees, as of 20 Apr the following is still posted: "The proposed rule for the new passport fees was published in the Federal Register on February 9, 2010 (Public Notice 6887, Federal Register, February 9, 2010, Volume 75, No. 26, beginning at page 6321). Publication of the proposed rule in the Federal Register will be followed by a public comment period of at least 30 days. The public will be notified of the date the new fees will go into effect."

Hopefully, they are behind on their comment period and processing, but it would appear this might happen soon. "Go before midnight tomorrow" as they say on TV...
