Questions about upcoming flight
So I'm off to Spain for a semester of studying (to mejorar my Spanish, sacar some nice fotos, and enjoy seeing the world from a different perspective) and I have some situations I want to be prepared for:
First of all, my flight was booked through Orbitz and is routed: Dayton-Charlotte (US Airways Express) Charlotte-London Gatwick (US Airways) London Gatwick-Málaga (British Airways) Question 1: Will my baggage likely be checked through or will I have to recollect it in London & check in with BA? (Or is it a YMMV situation with the check-in agent in Dayton?) Question 2: Say my CLT-LGW flight is delayed, causing me to miss my LGW-AGP flight. To whom (and to where) do I go upon arriving in LGW? I think I go to the USAirways counter outside the gate but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance. |
Welcome to FlyerTalk!!
Your bag should be checked all the way through in DAY, but it will depend on the agents actually doing it correctly. If you miss the flight you go to the BA counter. At that point they are still responsible for getting you to Malaga as you are on a single ticket. You should do it at the transit desk, not outside. |
Welcome to FT. Well posed questions for a newbie. ^
1. Assuming it is all one ticket, then yep! Bags go all the way thru to Málaga. (Unless, of course, they end up in Malawi!) ;) 2. The airline which causes the delay (which causes you to miss your flight) is responsible for securing your onward trip. (However....I do not know the layout of LGW. If you arrive in LGW with a bit of a delay, and you run to another terminal  to get to BA, and then you barely miss the connecting flight....you may not be able to get back to US. In that case, just beg and plead and see if BA will help!) Safe and fun travels! ^ |

Where the "one ticket or two" situation becomes important is if you miss a connection. The carriers are responsible for taking care of you if you've booked everything on a single ticket and miss a connection, and neither carrier has any responsibility to accommodate you if you book on separate tickets. |

Actually, it does not matter if it's all one ticket or not. Generally speaking, you can through-check bags on any set of continuous (i.e. non-stopover) flights between carriers that have interline baggage agreements, regardless of whether or not the flights are all booked on the same ticket. If booked on separate tickets, you need to show some proof of the onward flight.

How will the OP not be able to get back in the states just for walking to the other terminal to find BA
