I remember reading that a few months back, SUX tried to get that changed. FAA basically stonewalled 'em, so SUX it remains.

The local business community has been trying to get it changed for years. Apparently the FAA offered GAY (as in Sioux GAY-teway Airport). City fathers said no thanks.

The airport board, however, started selling stuff with the SUX logo at the airport and it's going like hotcakes (LA Times story here). Business community is apparently coming around and embracing the joke.
