Examples of 5th freedom flights

Can anyone give other examples of flights that stop in an intermeadiate country before going to their home country and are allowed to buy a ticket just for the intermeadiate city? I can only think of 2 but I'm sure there are more.

JFK-YVR-HKG on CX
JFK-FRA-SIN on SQ

They are many. The ones that easily come to my mind:

YYZ-NYC-SCL Lan
PEK-BKK-CAI Egyptair
HAN-BKK-CDG Air France
LIM-SCL-EZE-GRU Gol Linhas Aereas
DXB-KHI-KUL Malasya
FCO-CDG-GRU Varig (early this year, now discontinued)

And so on.....

there are some threads in the 1W and * forums about such routings.

Hmm, I think ICN-LAX-GRU is another one for Korean Air.

I have flown Czech Airlines DXB-CMB. My wife and I were the only Caucasians starting in DXB and they thought we must surely be transit passengers that forgot to reboard.

It was quite odd to hear everything in Czech again as I use CSA quite often in Europe.

And NRT-JFK-GRU for JL

AA and UA either did, or AA still may fly MVD-EZE.

IAH-MOW-SIN on SQ may be the more interesting of them ex-USA.

DL runs a bunch of flights through DKR such as CPT, JNB and NBO (or, planned to).

Probably the most unique? Zimbabwe Airways PEK-SIN-HRE.

A lot of airlines fly BKK-HKG... Jordanian, Eithad, Emirates, China Airways, Ethiopian, Kenya Airways but this list may be incorrect as this is strictly from memory. The list is surely not complete, either.

SQ has plenty of them. In addition to the ones already mentioned above, they also have LAX-NRT vv, SFO-ICN vv, YVR-ICN vv, NRT-BKK vv to name a few more.

Bob'sYourUncle Oct 27, 2008 8:27 am

LA MAD-FRA vv

Cheapest fares usually in that market, plus wide-body with AVOD.

circusboy Oct 27, 2008 8:31 am

CO: Check out the CO Micronesia operations. Many flights in that region that don't start/end in GUM.

There really are tons of them out there.

I stumbled across a weird one the other day.
Someone was listing a PIA flight from IST-AMS
PK 761 ISB-IST-AMS

PIA also used to do JFK-CDG - onward to Karachi, if I'm not mistaken

Also-
Apparently Air India is canceling that EWR-PAR flight (and presumably the ongoing flight where ever it goes to/from there).

My mother was booked on it for March and she had to be accomodated on CO.

PPT is part of French Polynesia, so this is not an example of a 5th freedom route.

KL BKK-TPE

stut Oct 27, 2008 10:19 am

There are thousands of intra-EU ones. Just look at Irish-registered Ryanair's bases throughout the UK, and Belgian-registered VLM's base at LCY!

HY (Uzbekistan Airways) has, I believe, has the rather odd JFK-RIX. Turkmenistan Airlines used to to some bizarre stopover in BHX, but I don't think that's still going.

tjl Oct 27, 2008 11:53 am

Jet Airways, SFO-PVG
Northwest Airlines, NRT-PEK
United Airlines, HKG-SIN
Thai Airways, HKG-TPE

mizzou miles Oct 27, 2008 11:59 am

Jet has quite a few:

YYZ-BRU
EWR-BRU
JFK-BRU

Dont forget MH:
EZE-CPT (and on to JNB-KUL)

Copa has all kinds of stuff such as TGU-SJO and many more...

JL operates YVR-MEX in addition to the previously mentioned JFK-GRU

EK has a slug of trans-tasman flights eg. SYDAKL etc

UA Fan Oct 27, 2008 12:45 pm

I think there are many carriers on the Oz-NZ route.

ajax Oct 27, 2008 2:08 pm

BA also have BKK-SYD and SIN-SYD.
