Duty Free and Security Question
 

Hi everyone

For the record, I scoured the net before asking this, so my bad if I couldn't find the answer. :rolleyes:

OK, well I'm heading back to PER via SIN from DXB soon. My question is regarding the liquids restrictions over 100ml. I was hoping to purchase some duty free liquor in DXB, then transit thru SIN, home to PER. Would the security at the gate at SIN reject my duty free purchase from DXB, given that it's over 100ml?

A little concerned about this, because by all aco....s, it's far cheaper to buy booze in DXB than Changi, or at home.

Any help would be great.

I'm not sure if you can bring duty-free while transiting anywhere in the world (unless there's no transit security check) other than for the E.U. exemption.

If you have enough time, check the booze in at SIN. I was flying HKG-MEL today and the Duty-Free in HKG won't sell to Australia or U.S.-bound pax. Figures that the same brand of rum that costs HKD 120 (about USD 16) in HKG costs AUD 25 (about USD 21?) at MEL.

SIN will likely confiscate any liquids in carry-on above 100ml. You have the option of getting duty free in SIN or on arrival at PER.

Thanks all for your advice on this matter. I've now decided to wait until I arrive at Changi to buy the booze. Seemingly, they will place it in a tamper-evident bag, then allow me to board with it. Is that correct?

I'd prefer not to buy it on arrival, just want to head on home.

Another thing... in a tight connecting schedule, can I dash between gates whilst grabbing the stuff, or must there be the '1 hour before departure' rule?

Don't Count on it(the bag).

As I said, no liquid products are allowed to be sold to Australia & U.S. bound pax at least yesterday ex. HKG because of your governments war of (t)error.

You're in luck. SIN duty free delivers booze and other liquids for gate pickup so you can buy booze in SIN (cheaper than Australian prices, I wager) if flying to Australia. I'd go and buy early just to make sure your purchase makes the cut-off though.

And last night when I flew HKG-SYD there was a bag check for all in the jetway confiscating all liquids. I'd be buying on arrival at PER

In Hong Kong last month they were being very strict on transit passengers' liquids.

I really think buying it anywhere except inbound in Perth is a bit of a risk (unless you check it in) so the answer would depend on how much of a risk you want to take.

Is there a post-customs on-arrival DF at Terminal 1 at Perth? Good news for me if so.

Singapore would usually allow you to bring through your purchases, but since your final destination is Australia, you're out of luck. From the Changi Airport FAQ:

Q8.If I am transferring or transiting at Changi Airport, will my liquids, aerosols and gels items purchased at other airports be accepted at Changi Airport? Will I be allowed to bring these items onboard my flight?

Passengers (*except those travelling to Australia, the US or on Northwest Airlines or United Airlines) will be allowed to bring liquids, aerosols and gels items in containers larger than 100ml onboard their flight if these items are placed in sealed tamper-evident bags with the receipt clearly displayed in the sealed bag. The receipt must show the date of purchase, item(s) purchased, name of the shop and the name of the airport.
