US Passport question
 

I have a friend who had a question for me and I don't want to answer her incorrectly. She is filling out forms for a visitor visa to Russia and there is a question whether her US passport is tourist or official. I was going to answer official is for government employees but then I got to thinking all passports are official. Thanks for the help.

As you said, official passports are for government employees traveling on government business.

Unless the passport is marked as "official" and is red in color or "diplomatic" which is black in color, the passport is a tourist passport.
