If an acquaintance has space on their (private) jet I see no reason why you couldn't hop on.

I don't know if there are rules and regulations set in place with this, but any time I have flown private I am pretty sure our plane had a manifest with the names of all passengers and crew on board. I've always assumed it was FAA regulation so they know how many people to look for if the plane crashes/who to contact when they find your charred remains. It might not be an official policy though, just my experience.

Used to do it a lot back in the day. Now, I think you still can but make sure you are reported the FAA in the manifest to avoid breaking some rule and getting the pilot into hot water if it is ever checked.

I have done it (post-9/11), at a small airfield in Coldfoot, AK. I doubt it would work at EWR though.

When I read the headline I thought it could be several things but not hitching on a jet. :D

I've made arrangements previously but never just rocked up and asked.
What's the etiquette?

I think it's really much more about "where" than "how." In tiny airfields out in the middle of nowhere (e.g. Coldfoot AK or I'm sure many other places in Alaska or the Yukon or perhaps in Mongolia) it's not really a big deal. Just ask the pilot what direction he's headed in. I've never tried this in "civilization" though and I'd guess it's a whole different story :).

Are there any websites that publish the flight paths TO and FROM XYZ airport for private jets?

That or head to Van Nuys and you can beg for a ride every 5 mins :)

Agree with bug_me_not... Fascinating thread...

I'm particularly interested in the concept of a "small" airfields near ORD that "get a lot of traffic? Particularly International traffic" Small?

Given the trouble normal airlines go to to ensure folks are entitled to enter destination countries one wonders what the operator of a private jet would be letting themselves in for taking "hitchhikers!":eek:

I'll wish him luck.... but it's not something that sounds promising to me!!

(And how do you get back????) :eek::eek:
