You could save weight by not packing vegetarian meals. You'd need one extra meat based meal to offer the vegetarians, which they'd all reject because they are true to their beliefs and they never eat sausages or chicken on the sly at all when they think no-one's looking. Then you could just make them starve because they're picky eaters.

More pax = less weight per pax, i.e., you use less fuel per pax. So that's OK.

As to vegetarian meals, who's going to eat standing up anyway? And who serves meals in the cattle section anyway? :o

What could easily be done is to redesign the seats on a 3 - 3 configuration.
For instance, each seat now has its own support thereby having these three little compartments under those seats.
Instead, the three seats could be connected on one frame: the aisle seat would have ground/aisle support while the window seat would be connected to the hull. Thus, the middle seat would "float".
It would create a much larger "stow" area for wider bags.

More helium ideas: Instead of taking off under power, float the plane to 30,000 feet with weather baloons or blimps. Release the plane and then start the engines. The baloons could be tethered to the ground and retracted using electric motors (or several hampsters on a wheel) for the next flight. Added bonuses - noise reduction, increased tire life, etc.

Or just switch to dirigibles and use helium for all the lift.

Why not build huge catapults at the airports - the one with a long rubber string? ;)
