I know the question might sound all 12th century but I still wanted to ask. What airline did you see them on?

QF for one. The airline recruits cadets for entry into the pilot programme, and doesn't recruit ex-military as the U.S. airlines do (though there certainly are a number of female U.S. military transport pilots).

That's not 100% true, QF cadets are not given any guarantee of a job when they finish and have to fully self fund their training, QF does have a direct entry scheme which most military pilots would apply through.

Atlas Air (Cargo airline) has a few female 747 Captains - I used to see them regularly at the hotel I was working at in Singapore.

FedEx also had at least one female first officer before they retired the Flying Tigers 747's.
