Auxiliary Passport?????
Okay, this morning I explain to my boss that I can't send it the paperwork for a Brazilian visa until I get back from Canada next week. He commented that I need to get an auxiliary passport; which he said is a second passport that I use while my primary passport is in sent in to get visa's processed.
Besides being a little upset that he isn't planning on me being home long enough to get the paperwork ready for my next trip, I was confused as I'd never heard of an auxiliary passport. Does anyone have one of these or know how they work? |
yes. You pay money for a second tourist passport, normally just valid for 5 years instead of ten. You can even do it in person at a passport office and receive it same day.

Another option if you travel frequently to Canada and foresee this issue arising again is the new "passport card":
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2006/74083.htm http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9064051 This would be valid for purposes of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, i.e. travel to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and would be like an "extra" passport in credit-card-like form, without room for stamps or visas. I kind of doubt you can get one of these in the coming week in Canada, but who knows.... If you could get one on an urgent basis, you could use it to re-enter the US and mail in your booklet-style passport. |

Only valid for land travel.
The Canadian government wanted it to be valid for air travel as well. As for second passports, you will need to include a letter explaining why you need one. |
