Baggage Allowance question

I will be flying on SQ from SIN into LAX and then from LAX to BWI on UA. Singapore Airlines allows me 2 pieces of 32kg.
When i land at LAX (International), will I need to retrieve my baggage and re-check in or will my baggage be checked all the way to BWI from country of origin?
The big question is also, will UA allow my 2 pieces of 32kg since I came from an international flight (that has a different baggage limit)?

Thanks

You will for sure have to claim it at LAX and then recheck it after clearing Customs. On the second part...as long as it is one booked through ticket the international allowance should apply (at least in my experience so someone may have better info)

I really hope so that it will be checked all the way and not apply double standards on my baggage limits.

it hasn't been useful trying to check with either Singapore Airlines & UA.

BTW, the ticket for the whole journey is offered through Singapore Airlines website... so technically, the baggage allowance from SQ should apply to both legs. ... I hope

:)

It is normally the case that the rules at ticketing apply the whole way through as long as it is one booking...I wouldn't worry about it.

But again you WILL have to collect it in LAX and recheck it regardless of the weight thing.

When you finish with customs (after collecting your bags from the luggage belt), you will need to recheck them. This is really simple and basically involves turning them back in to the airline after the customs check. You will not need to haul them to the ticket counters in the UA terminal. Also you will go through security after transfering to the UA terminal at LAX. Don't forget to put any dutyfree liquids you might have purchased (non-liter zipbag contained, regardless of what they tell you or package them in SIN) into your checked luggage before turning them back in to the airline, as otherwise TSA will take them.

Thanks for the reply.

BTW, is it a long way from TBIT to Terminal 6? I have a 3 yr old with me!

You always clear customs & immigration at your first point of entry in the US, thus you must recheck your bag. Note that this does *NOT* apply on your return trip--then your bag will be checked all the way through.

My experience is that on tickets with varying baggage rules that the most liberal applies to the whole ticket.

It's about 1500 feet; but there is a free inter-terminal bus that picks up from the designated spot on the lower level about every 5 minutes.

I have found that sometimes it is faster to walk from one terminal to the next in LAX, although it depends upons your connection time. A 10-15 minute walk with just your carryons and child, might be a good opportunity to stretch your legs between the flights. Get a cart and push your bags.
