multi-carrier flight issues??

We have been traveling about twice a year for the last 10 years and have always avoided trips using multi-carriers. However, with the cost of flights out of our regional airport going through the ceiling, we may be forced to start seriously considering these type of trips. What do you do when you arrive at the airport and have to change carriers, when the two airlines have no "partner" arrangement, and the 2nd carrier is two terminals away? Any comments would be helpful.

I think a bigger question you need to ask is "what happens when the first carriers flight is delayed and I miss the second carriers flight?". You're assuming a lot of risk here if everything is not on time.

You are taking a risk here. Basically, if your original flight is delayed they have no liability for you missing your connection. If you elect to do this make sure you allow a lot of time for your connections, as you will need to collect your luggage (if you checked it) and re check in with your new carrier.

I certainly would not recommend this tactic just to save a few bucks.

Thank you for the advice. It makes sense to just ante up and not take any chances.

Yeah, I learned this the hard way. A 5hr delay on my transcont flight had my j seat given away on a LAX to SYD flight. Didn't want to wait another +20 hrs to fly out, so I took the Y-seat. My luggage didn't make it for a couple days either.

Never made that mistake again :)
