I would like to echo the others here - it's just best to come on out and ask for what you want. Now, when it comes to Ambien vs Lunesta, I have to go with Ambien every time. I do indeed wake up feeling refreshed - just like those people on the matress ads!

Lunesta, with its creepy butterfly of death ads, leaves me feeling like I've been hit by a truck full of Benadryl.

The problem with the alcohol warning sticker/notice on US prescriptions is that pretty much all drugs have it (I have never seen one without it). Since most drugs don't have any meaningful interactions with alcohol, people learn to ignore the warning.

if you don't know there is another new pill call Sonata that only requires 4 hrs of sleep. My dr prescribed cause you don't always have 8 hrs to sleep. I was wondering for those that took Ambien etc did you do ok if you didn't sleep the whole 8 hrs?

As someone pointed out, the fundamental problem you are having is - campus health services- I went to women's college and no matter what you went in for- sprained ankle, sore throat,whatever, the response was always the same " Could you be pregnant?" . They were obsessed with the topic. They were also exceedingly hesitant to prescribe anything and this was 15+ years ago before we heard so much about presecription drug abuse. I think that your best bet is to pay to see a family practice doc and explain the situation truthfully.
As for what to take, Lunesta was totally ineffective for me ( Hence the phrase used in our house"Lunesta gives no resta"). Ambien is ok for most people to use occasionally. Trazadone is great but can have a hangover until you are used to it. So, whatever you get- try it out at home for a couple of nights.

Anyways, after much difficulty I was once able to coax a campus health dept. to give me a script for two Sonata for a transpac trip (count 'em, TWO. Enough for 8 hours of sleep total.) I had no trouble dictating other far more powerful drugs that I wanted 'scripts for, including corrections to their outdated "standard" travel regimen for SE-Asia and scheduled narcotic anti-diarrhea medication (Lomotil).
