You can have stop overs in Vegas one way or both ways. Take a few days and see the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Worth the time. If you allow a couple of days stop over you can easily book two separate tickets.

Yup, this is the way to do it! Hire a car and check out the other side of Vegas. If you stay at non-Strip hotels, you lodging cost will be quite reasonable. Incidentally, Las Vegas and Hawai'i have a strong connection...more Hawai'ians live in Las Vegas than any other city except Honolulu. The Las Vegas FTers would likely throw a Do in your honor.

I must admit, Vegas has never had any appeal to me. However, I like the sound of going to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. My wife would love that! Assuming I can get this route to work for us, I think I might tell her we're stopping somewhere on route, but keep the details back as a surprise... :p

If I was to go via Vegas, would I need to spend 2-3 nights on the way there, and do the same again on the way back, particularly if flying on different tickets? Or can you get same tickets where you get a stopover of more than one night, either on the way out or the way back? If so, does this push up the cost?

Sorry, so many questions...
