Ambien ftw, can make you go a bit doolally though, try it at home before you go. Killer hangover cure too. Actually might go and get some from the doc tomorrow, got a few parties coming up.

I am one of those people that can never sleep on a plane no matter what. Or so I thought. I actually found one exception. When I flew home from the French Polynesia, the flight attendant covered me up with a down comforter. She also gave me an amenities kit which included an eye mask (which I used)and she gave me an actual bed pillow. Finally, I also slipped into some Lounge socks that were in the kit. It may have helped that I was sick  but I slept and didn't wake up until it was time for a fabulous breakfast. Ok, so the breakfast wasn't fabulous, but at least I slept.

sleep mask, good neck support pillow, ear plugs (or noise reducing phones), and lots of tiredness from the night before!

Actually, I suggest you try not drinking at all- usually leads to better sleep on the plane.

On the contrary, red wines have helped me sleep better. Plane or at home.

They don't work for me. As a matter of fact they worsen my ability to sleep.

I hate you too.

:p

Nothing works for me on planes - luckily, my employer is mindful of that and never requires me to fly redeyes (unless international long hauls necessitate it).

Here is my routine without meds

The night before the flight go to sleep at 8 PM and wake up at 4 AM the day of the flight take a shower and continue your normal routine.

For breakfast eat eggs, meat and a vegetable salad.

For lunch eat a Turkey Sandwich with a Banana .

Have a Granola Bar and Banana for snack.

Before the flight as most flights are in the evening go to your favorite Italian restaurant and eat pasta bread and wine.

On the plane you can drink a beer and put on eye shades and fall a sleep. At this point you will be up for 13+ hours and ready to sleep. I always put on the IFE before sleeping. I find it helps to leave your headphones on tuned to a station to fall asleep.

When you wakeup take a walk around stretch your legs. Bring a washcloth toothpaste and a toothbrush and other goodies from home and freshen up. Shave if you need to.

Drink only one cup of coffee and eat breakfast. Drink water and orange juice.

Take another nap before landing.

When you arrive take a shower and walk and see the town and stay up until 9 PM enjoying the normal meals etc.

You won't have jetllag. It works for me every time.
