Passport Renewal

I just sent my passport to be renewed on a no-rush basis and I am wondering what the turnover time is presently so I might judge when to expect it back. Thanks for any information.

I believe the backlog has been taken care of at the present time. If that is the case, then the State Department website says normal processing time would be 4-6 weeks.

Thank you for the information.

I renewed my passport by mail in late June and I had a new RFID passport back in two weeks... and then about two weeks later came the old passport.
I just sent it via regular mail with no expedite fee... so was pleasantly surprised when it came back in 2 weeks.

I had a relative in CA apply for their first passport about two weeks ago. He just got it back in the mail today.

Some one I work with was quoted a renewal time of less than a week if she paid for FedEx (or equivalent) delivery on both ends. She cancelled a business trip to Germany this week when that proved untrue. :(

I'm debating renewal vs trying to get a couple trips done with less than 6 months remaining on mine. 2 weeks would be acceptable.

I renewed it two weeks ago with expedited service, thinking it'd take 2-3 weeks, but I got it back the last week.

With a business trip pending, there is NO WAY I would trust the US government.

I would definately have used a passport expiditing service in this case (with proof of immediate flights pending).

Even in the days when the government was not so backlogged, I was traveling to Bermuda weekly and once when I had a one week gap .. I used a service and got it back very quickly!

Passport Renewal

Received my renewed passport back today, the 18th, after mailing it regular mail on the 5th. Pretty fast turnover for sure. My old passport had extra pages added but I did not receive the extra pages in the new passport as requested. Also didn't receive my old passport but it appears that may come later - I really wanted it as a keepsake.

I sent my renewal paperwork via first class mail on October 2nd and received my new e-passport back via priority mail on the 19th. In the priority mail envelope was a double sided flyer stating that if your new passport was included in the envelope, the supporting documents which were included with the application would be returned separately. There was also a flyer with travel tips/advice and a bit of info on the new e-passport.

On the 23rd, my old newly canceled passport came back in a plain #10 sized white envelope, via first class mail. One of the two passport photos that I included as part of the renewal was stapled to the signature page of the old passport. Included in this envelope was the same flyer stating that if your passport was included in this envelope, the supporting documents would be mailed separately or vice versa...

There's a red rectangular date stamp on the signature page "cancelled" and two hole punches on the cover of the passport where the scanners would read:

We must be so lucky here in Australia, a fortnight is the quoted time for a standard delivery. When I got mine done earlier this year it was in my hands in about 12 days.

Then just got a cheque with an apology for being overcharged.:)

My husband applied for his first passport and while he thought initially that he would not need it expedited, he decided last minute to accompany me on a business trip to Paris. He called them and they were able to change it to an expedited process and he got the passport a few days later. So if something comes up and you need it right away, they are pretty good at responding.

You are allowed to upgrade to expedited service online, if necessary.

I applied for a passport for my (now 8 month old) daughter about a month ago and received it in less than two weeks using regular service.

My old passport had an additional six 24-page (pp A-X) inserts. When I renewed, they simply gave me a 48-page (instead of 24-page) passport, which bought me a bit more time before I had to start getting more pages.
