I like it a bit cool too. On a flight from SGN-NRT recently on JAL, they kept the temp quite warm and in addition to the cramped Y seats it was very hard for me to sleep. It was a red eye flight too. And on JAL they don't have personal air vents. Contrarily on the first flight from NRT-SGN I was next to the window and it was freezing. Most of the domestic US flights I've been on I'm usually comfortable unless I didn't dress accordingly.
Does anybody know the reasoning behind not having personal air vents on planes? Cost saving measure? |
Clearly the solution is to return a few more blankets to the plane for the cool-averse so the cabin can be set at a temperature comfortable for the rest of us ;)

I have noticed that planes ordered by US airlines generally have the air vents. I have noticed that many aircraft owned by non US carriers do not have the vents. It may not be that the "new planes" do not have the vents, but that the airlines did not order them.
PS - I like it cool. ANA's 777-300s and Contnental's 777s do not have personal air vents, but Air Canada's new 777s do have the personal air vents, so at least on the 777, and possibly the 767, it is an option. I just wonder why an airline would not want to order personal air vents, especially considering how each person has a different body temperature. |

HTB. |
In general flights in asia are damm cold and thats whythey always have plenty of blankets on board
|
I am always cold and I turn off the personal air vent every time. On my flight from MCO to PDX last week, I had 2 blankets on me and I was still miserable.
|
I just came back from a trip with 3 connections and 2 where warm the other was too cold. I think it just depends on the aircraft and where you sit.

All the flights I have experienced this have been US domestic flights. Right around mid-trip, the cabin temps have risen to a point where people (myself included) have complained. I have experienced this on USAirways, Southwest, and Continental. The continental flight attendant said they air conditioner was cranked as far as it would go. Before this summer, I don't recall this happening on any of my flights (I fly over 100,000 miles per year consistently). The conspiracy side of me makes me think this is some trick the airlines are trying to conserve fuel. Let me know if you are feeling the heat too. Jack |
