Y-Up fare?

I just read an article about the so caleld "Y-Up fare.
The article says that it's basically a coach ticket but you're in the F cabine and get pretty much the same service. Only available in US-US or US-CA flights.

Experience?

Umm.... yes... it's a coach ticket, but you get a seat assigned in the F cabin. The price of a Y-UP ticket is usually much more expensive than "normal" Y fares, but sometimes or on some routes you can get a good deal.

Basically they are tickets to scam your employer that makes you travel in Y.

This is an inextinguishable (I am just listening to Nielsen's fourth symphony :D) myth.
Repeat all: A Y/B/M/H/Q--UP fare is a First Class fare that books into the A fare bucket and with a fare code that starts with a letter tradionally used for economy class.

I love listening to the contradictory posts on Y-UPs.

The correct answer is that on some airlines, Y-UPs are first class fares (think UA and US), and, on others, they are in fact Y fares with free upgrades (think AA).

Oh, the ever-popular refrain of the -UP fares:

They are First-Class fares, with First-Class booking privileges, First-Class class of service bonuses, First-Class BA Tier Points, First-Class this, First-Class that, First-Class etc, with the sole exceptions of:

1. Economy Fare code (but not booking code)
2. No compensation for downgrade due to standby voluntarily accepted. (This includes AA)

I had a nice little two segment y-up booked, but with a sched change, I would up direct on F9.
