career advice (switched position when started)

A very close friend of mine just accepted their dream position as a business analyst/project manager with a consulting firm. They had been looking for a very long time and were really trying to get to travel. They started three days ago. Today, they learned that they were being "groomed" to do training...with no travel.

What is the best way to deal with this? They confirmed multiple times before starting what their duties would be, but it's not specifically listed in the job acceptance contract they signed.

I thought that the many experienced consutants on this forum might have some feedback....

mis-representation of job duties

There are more problem-o's going on at the company than just this situation, tell your buddy to pretend he's just "visiting" and get out.

The company was just purchsed by another company and is still merging.
And...they haven't had a job for a while before this one.
Is there any way to approach the boss to get back to the position they were hired for?

Well, let's see. Why not approach the boss and tell him that you [read: your friend] is very excited to work for the company, you understand that some changes were unavoidable because of the merger, but would he please keep in mind that traveling on the job will be absolutely no problem should the possibility arise.

During a merger one is usually lucky if one gets to keep a job at all, especially if one is just about to start.

HTB.

Thank you for the feedback. They resolved the issue by involving someone one level up who had miscommuicated with those below him.

I promise, this situation really was not about me!!!! ;)
