Flight class codes
 

Hi, I'm a newbie from the UK. Can someone please provide a brief summary of the classifications for different classes of flights please i.e what are the letters for first, business/club, coach/economy, others etc?

Community is for upcoming gatherings and events. You might get a better answer posting in the specific airline forum that you intend to fly. The codes will differ somewhat between carriers.

Most people on FT use F when talking about First Class, J or C when talking about Business Class, and Y or E when talking about Coach/Economy (no Class).

Also bear in mind that many posters are US based - where often First is applied to domestic flights whereas in Europe it would be "Business" (or "Club").

Welcome to FT. Hang in there and things should get pretty clear in short order, including all of the codes and acronyms. It isn't all that complicated. I remember when I started here I thought the site and all of the forums were overwhelming. Now I realize that there are only a handful that I regularly visit plus quick links to just keep current with what's going on.

This is true. But some codes generally correspond to each other both sides of the atlantic ;)

I have seen the official IATA list of booking codes. Which specifies R for supersonic. But I cannot find it. Can anyone link to it, and comment?

While a few codes are widely standardized, such as Y for full-fare economy, others vary from one airline to another. ExpertFlyer has complete lists for all but some minor airlines, including the codes for upgrades and award tickets that cannot normally be booked directly. They also offer a five-day free trial, so if all you want to do is check the code lists, it needn't cost you anything. (Most frequent travelers who have taken them up on the free trial have been hooked, so beware - you have been warned!)

This thread (from the Star Alliance forum) contains a fairly comprehensive list for the alliance carriers' booking codes.

I flew in R on EVA air once. It was a discounted ticket of some sort... it was far from supersonic. Can't remember more than that.

Yeah, it's often the bargain bucket fares since Concorde went out of service.

My last R fare on EI was £1 before tax and didn't even earn miles :rolleyes:

can anyone suggest the booking class codes for EVA LHR_BKK.......
