flower on flights....
heyall...
what do you think of the following situation of having flowers to TPE from AMS all in 1 piece (or 10). I'm taking a bunch of roses from AMS via LGW and HKG to TPE. EZY for AMS LGW, O8 for LGW HKG, and CX for HKG TPE. I'm wondering how long can they last. (assume they are just about to blossomed when bought). and will they be able to go past the airports? i'm most worried about LGW and the O8 flight. flights at either end are short and not too worrying. also airports at either end are quite loose. LGW and a low-cost longhaul flight...!? |
I think that you'll probably have some problems with the agricultural inspection at customs, regardless of whether the roses keep or not.

Yep I think they would just about survive if you wrapped the stem ends in something wet and could physically protect them.
But I wouldn't discount having problems getting them into Taiwan. If they are not in sight the chances of getting caught are pretty small. I made some efforts to work out what the rules are - I wanted to take some seeds in. There are some brochures in English issued by Customs (I don't have a copy with me). In true Taiwanese English style, there was sufficient ambiguity in the various places where it mattered such that almost any interpretation was possible. My Taiwanese friends just tell me "no you can't" but on pushing them they say that the Chinese isn't clear either. I did find this (http://eweb.customs.gov.tw/ct.asp?xI...27&ctNode=6485) - you must go through the red channel if carrying "Any aquatic products or animal, plant or any endangered species of wildlife or products thereof." Fruit and vegetables seem to be a no-no - maybe you've seen the warning video on the plane. On the hand, I'm sure some of this stuff just means you have to declare it rather than it is banned. If you show the officers in "quarantine" on arrival, they might just take a look and say "no problem".... |

though i didnt think of the quarantine thing but i was gonna bring it anyway.
if worst case i would go to the red lane, hand in 1 to them and hope they wont check the rest of my stuff. As long as... i wont be taking the whole thing thru and realize on the last flight they are broken in the process, i'll try to take them out. considering it might actually be fresher to take it fresh from NL than to buy them in TPE. to be honest i dont know where i can buy flowers. any clue jimbo?or others.... 4 euros for 10 is just tooo tempting. |
