Shouldn't Dad stand there and collect the luggage, and send it back to Mom and Kids - standing away from the carousel?

Except you'll lose contact with it while grabbing the next bag.
Anyway, if someone wanted to steal a bag at the baggage carousel he or she would wait until a bag has gone round twice, pick it up and carry it away. Stealing a bag inches away from its owner, who will turn around looking for his bag within 5 seconds, is nonsense in this setup. HTB. |

What's equally annoying is when people stand flush up against the carousel, leaving no room for me to step up and collect my bag when it comes. Until my bag comes, I have no need to be so close that I block off everyone else from that spot. So I stand back one or two feet, so that people that can see their bags and then step up and grab them.
Used to do, until the mom, dad and 3 kids barged (sidled) in front of me and loitered, blocking me and everyone else from getting at the carousel. Not anymore. I take my space and if anyone horns in on it I push back. F' em. |

This IS the perfect explaination for selfishness. Except for little old ladies who HAVE to give the cashier the correct amount of change at the market, people like you showed, totally make me nuts.
Worse for me are people who, when they KNOW you are in a hurry--say some emergency--they slow down on purpose! One example of this is when I was driving on the highway and was 1/8 a mile from the exit. I got into the breakdown lane to get to the exit and some arshole veered in in front of my car and I know he did it to prevent me. Why? Is he the cops? Does he CARE that I might get busted by one? Or did he do it just cuz he perceived me as finding a way to WIN when in fact I had to get home cuz my wife just called telling me the baby was choking and I needed to meet her at the hospital like NOW? These same people crowd the carrosel at airports and when you do get your bag, they are like jealous that you actually were efficient and maybe lucky enough to have it come out quickly... or, that you packed only one bag so you did not need to wait for other ones, while they still stand there waiting for the overly taped box to come around.

I have found people very reasonable when I say "excuse me, would you mind if I step in for a moment, my bags are right there" or something to that affect.
I try to be nice all the time. What's sad, is that sometimes, you almost wish the other person went through life ASSUMING someone might wish to get by, and make it so you dont even NEED to say exuse me. This ideal situation could happen because that person would want to be nice, and therefore, they already know to be stepping aside in case someone might come up. ;) |

yawn... instead of whining about people's behavior that you cant do anything about, figure out what YOU can do about it. if someone is blocking your way to the carousal, ask them to move, or gently brush in, or shove them away. its not that hard to figure out a way to do something if you want it.
for that post about someone blocking your way in the breakdown lane, if it was truly a life or death emergency (pregnancy, ER, etc etc), then honk and, since its a traffic jam, get out of your car and ask the driver nicely, and finally if your vehicle or the terrain allows, go off the pavement. use ingenuity rather than whining. my #1 pet peeve is waiting in line (no matter what the reason is) so i purposely go shopping, banking, DMVing at off peak hours or before the place opens. |

The problem here is that a lot of .......s use the breakdown lane as a traffic lane to pass slow or stopped traffic without it being an emergency. You looked like one such.

What would YOU (plr) do under such a moment of stress involving an infant? Your infant? use ingenuity rather than whining. my #1 pet peeve is waiting in line (no matter what the reason is) so i purposely go shopping, banking, DMVing at off peak hours or before the place opens. I also try to shop not when there are crowds and I try to leave for work before the commute but that cannot always happen so I hate it when people freak on 1/2 inch of snow, and I try to be nice to people or say excuse me. I also try to not call customer service on Monday AM EST but then again, isnt it Monday AM somewhere else in the world when I do call? Well, back to the baggage thing... I try to zip in, get my bag, say excuse me and move on. I have not complained to anyone in my way, I just let them see by example how easy it can and should be by getting mine with ease and being gone fast. they see me perfectly walk up to the carosel, grab the bag and leave and they must wonder... hey, how'd he do that? Can i do that? |

We could use a mini version of this when waiting in line at the baggage claim as well. It could be mounted on our heads and say something like, "I have one bag to grab and I think I see it. Please move, and oh, your family needs to stop playing soccer in this area please." or, maybe have a system where they take a number like in the deli. :D |
