I am guessing that this is similar to the HIP check. In this case, the full LON-LGK fare (~10 000 USD) is higher than your LON-KUL + KUL-LGK (~4 000 USD), so a surcharge for the difference (~6 000 USD) is being applied ...

Seperate tickets it is :D Hopefully EK will check bags through. |
Strangely, it doesn't apply when I book LHR-KUL-LGK/KUL-LHR
