Which Movie Will Make Her Want to Travel?

She's fed up with the airline experience and panicked at the thought of overseas travel "post 9/11". So, I'm cooped up at home with a case of cabin fever.

She loves movie night.

What movies can I rent that will subtly romanticise, glorify, and inspire travel to faraway places?

Soul Plane

Great way to tell the difference between First class and Coach class.

Eurotrip! - just kidding.

Would she like some sophisticated French or Italian movies (either contemporary or older)?

A few friends of mine just *had* to go to Italy (specifically Venice and Positano) after watching "Only You".

If you tell us what kind of destination you are thinking of, it'd be easier to find the right movie for you.

Stay far away from Hostel. My husband loves to travel and this movie freaked him out a bit.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

My wife decided to go to PEI to visit the "shrine" of Ann of Green Gables after she watched the show.

The better question is, where do you want to go? Then pick movies, films and shows that highlight the area.

Snakes On A Plane - not!

The movie you take when you go somewhere by yourself....

Stay away from Babel (just went to see it tonight). Terrific movie, but the couple in front of us said to one another they're not traveling overseas anymore after seeing it.
Without giving it away, it has to do with a bus scene...
I'll say it again - a GREAT movie!

Funny, I was actually thinking of Babel as a great travel movie. Having spent a fair bit of time in the three countries where the movie takes place, the director did an amazing job of capturing the essence of the three places, really highlighting, through their differences, what these places are really like.

I would think any of the "destination" movies about a place she's always wanted to visit might do it. For example, "Under the Tuscan Sun" always makes me want to go back to Italy (same with "Roman Holiday" and "Three Coins in the Fountain" etc), and there are too many movies about Paris to count. Get her to tell you about someplace she's always wanted to see for herself, and then find movies that show it off -- I think it's harder to find a movie that glorifies travel in general.

P.S. I actually secretly love "Eurotrip." Scotty doesn't know! :D

Hehe, Eurotrip is great!

How about a Bond movie? They definitely go for the romantic, glamorous side of travel...Casino Royale (though not actually a particularly good film imho) definitely made me want to revisit the Czech Republic (where the superb Montenegro landscapes were shot) as well as head over to beautiful Lake Como.

Also, the flyover shot of the high-speed Eurostar-type train zooming through the woodlands, while it's passengers enjoy a great meal...truly the epitomy of travel!!

I'd say whatever movie it is, try to avoid renting Flight 93.

(sorry, you KNOW I had to)

I would actually consider trying to get tickets to a popular film festival! How can a girl who loves movie night not wanna see THAT? You'd have to fly there though. Tell her more people die on their way to work than in the air.

Tell her also that this poster is a 9/11 family member and we all still fly.

;)MM

oh, try seeing Borat with her! :D

if all else fails, you can know that my inspiration to finally go to Australia did actually come from Crocodile Dundee--Seriously!
