Why is it so hard for people to fly to SYD?

"BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- A 21-year-old German tourist who wanted to visit his girlfriend in the Australian metropolis Sydney landed 13,000 kilometers (8,077 miles) away near Sidney, Montana, after mistyping his destination on a flight booking Web site."

Seems like there's one of these stories a year... Why do some many people get lost on the way to Sydney? :D

That guy not so bright. Must verify data when booking tickets. MT is a long way from OZ.

Few of years ago a young couple from UK intending to spend their honemoon in and around Sydney, Australia ended up in Sydney, Nove Scotia. What a surprise that must have been?

Anyway, the townfolks got together and provided everything for free and supposedly they ended up having a nice time.

Auckland/Oakland seems to be a common mix-up too.

He probably thought, what a great price! Looks like FRA-SDY is about $1000, while FRA-SYD is about $2100 (before taxes).

I remember a few years ago a young couple from somewhere in Europe ending up in Sydney, Nova Scotia instead of Sydney, Australia. Funny thing was the community took pity on them and provided some freebies like hotel and meals.

Whoops - I should have read the new posts. Good to see my recollection of the story was the same.

Not Syd, but a friend of mine just brought to my attention a good deal to fly to London. I had to point out that the offer was for London, Canada and not London, UK.

A UA agent once told me that a large number of foreigners who intended to go to Dallas often end up in Dulles, and vice versa.

My foreign exchange student was shocked when she was told at the airport in Moscow that her ticket was to SEL (Seoul, Korea) rather than to SEA (Seattle, Washington, USA). She had to wait three days in Moscow for another flight to Seattle. :(

The perils of world-wide travel. :o

A Japanese friend of mine once tried to book a flight from Tunis to Rome, and was rather surprised to be quoted well north of US$1000 for what should be a half-hour hop. After a few rounds of clarification, it turned out the agent thought he wanted to go to Lome, the capital of Togo.
