LOT Polish experiences
 

We are planning a trip to Russia in May and airfare options are quite a bit less on LOT Polish as compared with Lufthansa. I know we can get United miles on either, but anyone out there have any experience with flying on LOT?

Can only give you some feedback on Lot's european C class.
Flew WAS-FRA and POZ-MUC.
On the WAS-FRA 737 aircraft there was no free middle seat (i.e. 3 x 3 seating in C!!).
Service on the short flights was reasonable..a cold meal and drinks were served. Did not see what catering was provided in Y class.
The lounge in WAS was extremely crowded (Friday pm) but had a large selection of drinks and some snacks. Also free wireless access I think.
The longhaul LOT C product actually looks quite nice and IIRC is quite new. For a transatlantic flight this certainly would be something I would consider if the price was less than other *A carriers.

Thanks for your feedback. We will be flying in coach class
ORD-WAW-SVO/LED-WAW-ORD. I am wondering how connecting
in WAW might be? Also one of our travelers is not real keen on
an airline they are not too familiar with. I am going with the Star Alliance
factor that they must be OK (I know, this may not always be true!)

I'd say LOT Polish was one of the most difficult airlines to do a search on in FT.

But my only experience was a LHR-WAW return in Economy around August For intra European flights they'll give you a meal (or some sandwiches) but only the standard ones (no vegetarian, no jewish, no muslim etc...).

I wouldn't dream of paying extra for a seat in J on LOT intra European. I was in the first row behind business class. Seats are just the same. Food didn't seem particularly appetising.

Leg room was quite good, but no discernable difference at the front of Economy, so I guess the J class seats recline at the same angle as everywhere else on the plane.

Only warning is to watch out when choosing your seat. Some planes' economy section start at row 4 (or is it row 3?) others, one row behind that. If there's an equipment change and they switch planes your seat reservation goes out of the window and you won't find out about it until check in.

Also, (on the BMI FFP at least) the miles they give are miserable. You'll have to spend a huge amount to get anything above 25% of them. Even to get 50% you'll need to be booked in an expensive fare class.

I won't be using LOT again. I didn't get fed. My mileage was pitiful. I'll fly Easyjet when I return to this wonderful city (I have a Ryanair flight booked for Krakow in a couple of months). I much prefer AirBerlin to LOT in Y and would enthusiastically recommend them.

WAS airport is actully quite convenient to transit in.
WAS is much much smaller than FRA or LHR so no looooong walks from gate to gate. There were quite a few shops and restuarants to keep passengers busy and there are 2 *A lounges at both extreme ends of the terminal building.
The previous poster was right about the comment that it would not be worth to pay for European C class on LOT. I had a miles ticket....

Have you considered Austrian via VIE for your trip? They sometimes have good deals from the USA?
