Type of Aircraft?
 

I am not sure I am putting this in the correct forum or not, if not feel free to move it. Is there a tool that will allow you to search what type of equipment is being used on a specific route? Ive tried all the usual sites but I've yet to come across something that allows you to search by equipment. Like can we tell what routes get CO's 777's? Reason I ask is because ive had the opportunity to fly it a few times domestically yet ive never seen it listed as the equipment for those particular routes. one was EWR to MCO and the other was EWR to IAH.

You can see what type of aircraft is scheduled either on the airline's published schedule (available on their website) or via matrix.itasoftware.com. However, there are sometimes last-minute changes due to equipment which is late or out of service, so if you have gotten a different plane type than you were expecting, that could be why.

I meant a specific search by equipment. I can dig through any of the websites to find out what type of equipment is being utilized.

Oh, I get it. You want to search by equipment, not by route.

No, I don't know of any tool that does that. I think the best thing to do is become familiar with the schedule for the airline - you'll get a good idea of what types of routes the planes generally fly. As far as random last minute substitutions - since they are random and last minute, there's really no way to search for them. What I'm saying is, even on those days where you got a 777 EWR-MCO, the flight may not have been "listed" as a 777 so there would have been no way to search for it.

If you want to look at flight schedules sorted by equipment (or indeed sorted by any other parameter) I am afraid the one product that used to do this, GoldenWare Softwares' Electronic Travel Desk, has now gone. Too bad.

You could display the complete schedule from an airport to all destinations, and then sort the display by airline, aircraft type, destination, whatever.

There's a mini-version of this as the downloadable Star Alliance on-line timetable, which is still produced by Goldenware and has the same interface but only has Star flights.

Keep in mind that flightaware.com only shows airborne aircrafts that's in its "coverage". Meaning planes flying to/from/within N. America only.

For 777-300, type B773. For both -200 and -300, B77*.
