The more important thing: do you have an address you can use? Many states seem most concerned about proof of address.

Well, just don't try and get one in Maryland. Didn't have to turn over my UK licence, but that was the only good part. Had to wait 6 months for an "appointment". Had to do a 3-hour drug and alcohol class & test.
The only other person there was a Pakistani Muslim girl - who doesn't drink! The local drugged up drunk 16 year olds don't need to do this class until they've been done for DUI. Anyway, I digress.
Written test, green card check, SSN check, address check, UK licence check and one circuit around the block with an examiner. Since the previous student the examiner passed was a 4ft 5 girl driving a Ford Expedition who almost mowed down 5 pedestrians on the test course, I wasn't to concerned about failing!
