Cancellation Policy Question
Please help:
Two tickets were bought by two friends Boston - Mazatlan through Expedia. One of the friends had to cancel the trip all together. Another friend is willing to jump in and go. Both, Expedia & airline refuse to alter passenger name. Allow only a credit for non-use, good for one year, but still only for the first passenger name. Is all this legal and unresolveable? I can provide, (if necessary for assistance here), name, flight, ticket and reservation #s Thanks Peter |
if its a non-refundable ticket.. there is very little you can do. you could get
taxes refunded.. or re-book it within the allowed time frame with fees.. but thats about it. |
Actually I do not think even the taxes are refundable. the credit is good for one year from the date of purchase - less change fee - anywhere the airline flies but in the name of the orginal ticket holder only. There is one way around this depending on airline rules which depend on which airline it was plated on. The ticket can be exchanged by the original purchaser for a ticket of lesser value, residual value, less change fee, is put on a credit called an MCO. MCO can then be exchanged by a fmily member for another ticket. Lots of lost value this way.

its all legal because you agreeded to it all. Anyway as previous poster stated that would be your option and no the taxes are not refundable, because the goverment will be expecting that from the airline for the tkt. buy some super cheap stupid tkt, then take the differance in a travel cert and use it towards a tkt in the new friends name. Another way around all this is to buy non ref tkts only. Although they are still non transferable, they are fully refundable

Have the friend that backed out (friend #1) call and cancel the ticket. Get the airline to mail him/her a voucher. The voucher will have this friend #1's name on it.
When friend #1 receives the voucher, he/she can go to the airport with friend #2 and pay for friend #2's ticket with the voucher. Of course the voucher probably does not cover the entire ticket so the rest of the ticket must be paid for somehow or another. You may be able to do the same over the phone but I find it easier at the airport because you get it done and over with. |
