Help! Need lounge access for LAX honeymoon layover.
Hi all,
My wife and I will be flying through LAX enroute to Tahiti this Friday, and will have a 3+ hr layover. Using AA miles to fly on Air Tahiti Nui (TN) to PPT. :-:
There was no Business (J) available for an award, my highest status is *Silver, so I am looking for ideas/options for a lounge to hang out in for a couple hours in LAX, or if someone traveling at that time would be willing to "guest-list" us in?
I have read great things about the Air New Zealand Koru Club lounge, and also the AA Admiral's Club there? I have vouchers for the US Airways and Alaska lounge, but I think they are both in the domestic terminal.
Any ideas are welcome, thanks! ^

Buy a fully refundable ticket on US or AS.
Enjoy the Club (US) in T1 or the Board Room (AS) in T3 with your 'vouchers" (passes?). If you choose the Board Room, you can remain airside by taking the shuttle bus to T3 from T4 via the Eagle terminal from gate 44 in T4.
Refund your tickets over the phone and head over to TBIT for your TN flight. You could also purchase a day pass to the AC in T4 for $50.
Enjoy your trip and congratulations!

Ahh, I'm reading the fine print now on the AS voucher. "Valid in conjunction with an Alaska Airlines flight only. Valid only in the following Alaska Airlines Board Rooms..."

Any ideas out there about access to the Air NZ lounge?

Sounds like the AS Board Room is closer to TBIT, yes? TBIT = T4?
Would I have to purchase 2 fully-refundable tickets? Thanks.

TBIT is not T4
it is between T3 and T4
you can buy a full fare J ticket on NZ and use their lounge.
find out what terminal air tahiti nui uses and purchase a ticket that is refundable on a diff airline that operates from the same terminal

You'll need two tickets on NZ and at least one will have to be in business to use the lounge in T2. That's a pretty large sum of money to tie up on the credit card.
You're better off with the fully refundable AS tickets. They operate out of T3, as I posted above. Whatever you decide to do, you'll need two of them.
TBIT is TBIT. It is located between T3 and T4.

Thanks, Spiff.
Would the AS tickets have to be the same day travel?
I'm just trying to figure out the timing of when I'd reserve/cancel.

However, I'd recommend:
Buy 1 day prior
Get your FF# into the reservation
Buy a round trip
So that you can check-in online (minimize the possibility of haraSSSSment).
You'll need an AS BP or a printout of your AS itineraries to use the shuttle bus at T4 gate 44 to get to T3 via the Eagle terminal. It's about a 10-15 min ride, with the bus change at the Eagle terminal. It is also a great opportunity to do some plane spotting, particularly of international aircraft. You might even get a closer look at your TN bird.

Thanks, Spiff. I'll try this for sure!
Will also post in the Air NZ forum to see if anyone can guest us in to the Air NZ lounge. I've heard it's very nice.

Good luck, though I'm afraid I can't help you.
Just a thought: if your bride isn't an FTer and therefore hasn't seen this thread, you might not want to tell her you want to use a lounge for a "layover!"

I'd recommend buying an $85 60-day World Club Pass (covers one person and a guest) from NWA. You can access the clubs for NW, Delta and Continental, as well as the affiliated clubs overseas. I think it's a pretty inexpensive way of enhancing a honeymoon trip.

I am a frequent flyer from TBIT. Their lounges are unremarkable, and not worthy of any effort to enter.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with all the effort to buy tickets on another carrier to use their lounge. I'd just go to the food court area on the 2nd floor of TBIT, buy a beverage, and sit and relax til it was time to go through security. It's fun to see all the hustle and bustle on the floor below of folks checking in on exotic airlines to worldwide destinations.

The previous TBIT lounges no longer exist. As of Tuesday just gone, an interim lounge is being used. See a report here.
The interim lounge is policing access quite strongly (enforcing invitiation card requirement), and in any event is not worth a special effort to access.
