I have never flown to SJU, but I would assume that DF will not be available either way. It is a US territory, but I may be wrong on this.

OTOH, on your cruise, assuming you're going deeper into the Caribbean, you can buy all you want.......but remember, you still have to declare it because it's still part of your US customs allowance.... :)

I sometimes check out duty free places, and rarely find any even moderate deals. $20 for a liter of Baileys? Cheaper at Costco. In Europe, especially.

The only places I sometimes find deals are in Latin America. $10 a bottle of Bailey's in PTY, $14 in SJO. I found they would barter a bit in PTY, but not in SJO.

You are correct in stating that no duty free is allowed to or from SJU. However, there is a provision at the duty free stores in SJU that will allow you to buy local rum at very low prices. Even lower than what you would pay at the local stores outside the airport. I am not sure how the ability to purchase alcohol at duty free has been affected after the recent security fiasco dealing with liquids. I do not think the store delivers to the door of the aircraft - you used to take the bottles with you after purchasing them.

The shops at SJU always touted DUTY FREE but it really was not that. Forget it. Most cruises stop at St Thomas (and other duty free islands) where the whole isand is duty free and bargains are bountiful in booze etc.
