1) Portland, OR
-Mild winters (if you can handle the rain)
-Mild summers (warm, but no humidity!!).
-Great microbrews beer
-A nice city to look at (thanks to strict zoning and land use laws)
-Big but not too big. Traffic is a factor but is not insane (like in Seattle)

2) Toronto
-Probably the most multicultural city in North America besides NYC
-Lots to see and do
-Good public transportation
-Clean and low crime rate for a city that size
-Reasonable winters for Canada (thanks to Lake Ontario)

3) Vancouver, BC
-Beautiful scenary
-1.5 hours from Whistler
-Good climate (see Portland)

4) Miami Beach
-South Beach / Ocean Drive - need I say more?
-65F is considered cold

5) San Francisco
-Nice weather
-Great restaurants
-Golden Gate Park
-The Castro District.

So, make up your mind. Humidity is good or bad?

One of the things that makes Portland good, according to you, is low humidity. Yet, the humidity in Miami Beach is about as stifling as it gets.

100F heat + 100% humidity = bad for most people.

Not in December But you're right, I'd rather spend summers in Portland.

Seattle, without a doubt.

Mountains and sea and water. On all sides. Clean air and majestic views. No pretension and great seafood. Green everywhere. Microbrews. Base/center for Microsoft, Boeing (commerical anyway), Starbucks, Amazon and now the Gates Foundation.

I could go on...

Manhattan, New York City, hands down. I don't live there because I (only half-joking) think it's cheaper to regularly fly there (SEA-NYC) and stay in the hostel at 103rd than to live in the place.

Second: probably Vancouver, BC with its Chinatown and Le Crocodile.

Third: San Diego, CA.

Forth: San Francisco, CA,

Fifth: Boston

I have a preference for big cities with vital, vibrant culture. I love places like Vancouver, whereas faux-cities like Victoria , BC bore me to tears. My own hometown of Seattle is a great place to work and a good place to live, but compared to places like NYC, the volume is turned down a few notches.

Portland is absolutely beautiful, Toronto is sooo multicultural (and everyone is so sweet) and Vancouver has wonderful scenery.

Limiting to major cities other than my hometown, I'd say...

- Seattle
- San Francisco
- Vancouver
- Chicago
- St. Paul

Chicago and St. Paul are, admittedly, seasonal to some extent.

I'm quickly becoming completely hooked on Seattle - there are so many great places to go for a run in that town, and you can do it 365 days a year.

Opening it up to some smaller locales, add Carmel, Aspen, Annapolis, Duluth, and Madison to the list.

I love New York too, but I can only dig it in small doses. When I think of Manhattan, I think of a party weekend. Nonstop energy for about 48 hours, then pile into a cab to LGA, fly out, and sleep for a couple days. That's different from, say SF, where I could spend a far longer time there and completely enjoy every minute of it.
