JFK to NYC Central Station
Best/cheapest route from airport to catch my train to WDC
|
$5 for the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, and then $2 for the subway connection from there to Penn Station.
Take a look at the New York City forum, where this question comes up on occasion. Welcome to Flyertalk :) |

Cheapest is probably some bus route from JFK. Next to cheapest is the Airtrain to Jamaica. Buy a $7 metrocard at Jamaica to cover the cost of the Airtrain and the subway. Go downstairs and take the E train to Manhattan. Sit in the first car. Get off at Lexington Avenue. Go up the escalator and follow signs for the 6 Downtown. Take it one stop to 42nd Street, Grand Central. Quote:

WDC isn't Washington, DC (that's what I took it to be, which is why I thought "Central Station" was a reference to Penn Station and not Grand Central)? What station is it? The AMTRAK site only shows DC service from Penn Station.
Yes, I knew you couldn't get to Penn Station on one train. I was figuring the OP might check the previous threads rather than repost the subway connections. |
Likely the intention was Washington, D.C. (WAS). But WDC could refer to Wassaic, Dutchess County, which would indeed be a Metro-North out of Grand Central. http://as0.mta.nyc.ny.us/mnr/station...il.cfm?key=174
There is am Amtrak code WDC, but ironically Weed, California is only served by bus. |

The station code of WDC on the Amtrak site is for Weed, CA (a Thruway bus stop)! I don't think the OP meant that! All Amtrak trains operate out of Penn Station only. There was a time through the early 90's when Amtrak trains going north through New York State departed from Grand Central Terminal. But since the West Side Connector was built, now all trains go to Penn Station. Only commuter trains now use GCT. |

I see that the E train does go directly there, so there is no train change required from Jamaica. I usually come in on the A train from Howard Beach (just habit). |

When I added my advice, I had no idea what WDC was supposed to be. But since the OP asked for "Central Station", I assume he meant Grand Central Station which is known as Grand Central Terminal. It never occurred to me that "Central Station" meant Penn. If he wants to go to Grand Central, my advice still works. :p
If he wants Penn, he can take the E all the way to 34th Street/Penn Station. |

or, the Jamaica to Penn LIRR ticket is $3, $5, or $7 depending on time of day/phase of the moon, the subway is $2 is your time and comfort worth a buck or 2? i think you can easily save a half-hour via LIRR and be much more comfortable! |
You can take the New York Airport Service Bus from right outside every JFK terminal. This will then drop you off at Grand Central Terminal and then continues on to Penn Station. $15 one way, buy ticket on board bus. Takes about 45 mins.
Having recently negociated the NYC subway, I would hate to be doing it with luggage at rush hour. It may be cheaper, but there is a lot more hassle than just getting on a bus. |

it can also take 45mins to get throught the Midtown Tunnel and another 45 minutes to cross town to Penn at 4pm -6pm beware of city traffic! (i live 38 miles from the Essex House and we can drive it in 55 minutes - or 2hours 55 minutes- depends on day, time, weather) |
JFK to Penn to connect with Amtrak to get to DC's Union Station
JFK Airtrain ($5) to Jamaica Station. Once at Jamaica Station take the LIRR westbound to Penn Station(Tracks 1-2-3). The LIRR will arrive at Penn Station's lower level. Take the escalator up to the upper level which services NJ Transit and Amtrak. Amtrak is on the 8th Ave side of the station. Travel time should be under 1 hr in off peak hours. In peak travel times you can make the total trip in under 35 minutes (if you hit an express). *Make Sure You Go To Penn Station And NOT Flatbush Avenue!!!!!!* |
Since the OP did not return to clarify his/her request from 3 days ago, I wonder if this were just a ruse.
