Have you ever been to the Congo?

My brother -in-law is scheduled to fly to the Congo in early May to visit a friend who became a humanitarian 10 years ago in Africa. He doesn't really want to go but feels he can't back out now because of the friendship.....he has already gotten 5 Rx shots in preparation....he will only be there for about 5 days before he has to return...I didn't even know US citizens can go to the Congo...

I think he is crazy....

My best friend married a lady and did missionary work there.

It's definately poor... but if his friend has the right connections and friends (not saying like the president, but your friend should know what wheels to grease), your BIL shouldn't have any problems at all. My friend had no problems in the year or so he was there.

And Americans only can't go to Cuba, I think... it's just not easy for Americans to get over to the Congo.

is he going to Brazzaville?

The "Congo-Brazzaville" is offically know as the Republic of the Congo, but called Congo-Brazzavile to better differentiate between the two, since the DR Congo was formerly known as Zaire.

We aren't allowed into North Korea too (almost 100% of the time, my old roommate recently went for the MASS Games).

Actually, Americans are allowed to go to NK per US gov't rules, it's NK that does not allow americans on most occasions.

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

There are tours of the DMZ available where (even as an American Citizen) one briefly crosses into the DPRK. It happens in a meeting/negotiating room at the base which is evenly split down the middle of a conference table between South & North Korea.

Additionally, American citizens are not barred from visiting cuba, only from spending U.S. dollars there. Additionally, as there are no regularly scheduled flights from the U.S. to Cuba, getting there requires some planning.
