Independence Air auction
 

Literally the last bits and pieces of Independence Air are being auctioned off at this very moment in Dulles, everything from engine parts to luggage belt loaders to office equipment to motivational posters. There's another set of auctions tomorrow and next weekend. I wonder what check-in kiosks sell for.

You can even buy pillows, blankets, and headsets to distribute in your costume... :D

You'd think it would be illegal to sell official pilot garb, since bad guys might use it to impersonate a person of authority who could be trusted.

A case of those blankets would be handy for trips.

Wish I still lived in DC. I wouldn't mind checking out some of the laptops and sofas and computer desk for the home. I didn't see any official pilot garb being sold, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Anyways, most halloween costumes are realistic and I don't think that would be much of an issue.

This is nothing. Of the 12 A320s and 88 CRJs once in the fleet the leasing companies have been able to place 8 of the A320s and just 21 of the CRJs (many of these before the closure). The rest are just sat parked. It's a significant part of the reason why Bombardier decided to stop production of new CRJs. The total value of the idled fleet runs into $billions.

I'm totally going to try to check this out tomorrow, at least for the memorabilia.

Saw the PDF.... surprised there was no kitchen sink.

I went by there today. Absolutely fascinating. As just a pax, it was interesting to comb through their headquarters. Went into Kerry Skeen's office, much to my surprise a bunch of pictures and certificates were still in there! There was one for 2004 Airline Executive of the Air...

They sold EVERYTHING at that place. I can't believe the stuff people buy. I did end up with a box of FlyI Posters for Boston I paid $20 for. Decent deal. Models sold for $25 a piece---too much I thought (that's retail!). All the 40 Inch LCD monitors that were at the gates were sold for way too much money too. A few of them went for $1500 each! They aren't even HD and were used very heavily. Most went for around $900. Not sure what the kiosk machines went for.

Lots of printers, monitors, bookcases, etc. Book cases and chairs were basically $5 a pop.

Anyway, it was an interesting sight to see...

I wanted a ramp tug, but my wife said no.

I thought it would be way cooler than a golf cart.

Thanks for the info! My company would be very interested in some ground equipment, so hopefully we can arranged a trip up to DC.

I want the stair car. I'd redo the paint job and put a Bluth Co. logo on it and drive it around town. Would certainly turn heads. :cool:

I was there too. 6 of the check-in kiosks went to a guy for $300 apiece and the other 48 went to another guy for $250, who was wearing a an AirTran badge. I was hoping to score one for my office :( There were tons of FlyI and United Express plastic model airplanes, beach balls, posters and other assorted goodies but the auctioneer was taking his sweet time getting there and my 4-year old did not feel like sticking around.

Well, all the models went for $25 each to individuals, then the remaining cases from around $175. I was hoping to snag a few, but not at that price--not a great deal. (nothing special).

I ended up with 36 posters though!

I have no idea what I would have done with a kiosk machine, but, $250 sounds like a good deal!

The AirTran guy was very, very unpopular among the common folk....
