Is this cancellation because of "Weather"?

Evening flight, scheduled arrival 10PM. Snowstorm forecast to, and does, start at around 1AM (after the scheduled landing). Airline cancels flight because of weather, even though the weather is fine at the departure and arrival airports, as well as on the way, for the duration of the flight (verified by checking METAR data). The flight was clearly canceled because the aircraft would have been stuck at the destination airport the next morning, not because of any safety of flight issues for the evening flight. Is this a weather cancellation? [What if a pilot gets sick because of cold weather? ]

Southwest pulled this on me and got me stuck in MDW for 2 nights a while back. I only got really angry when, after the third cancelled flight (automated flight notification is worthless if it only works for on time flights), the agent told me that I could not be put on a TZ flight because it was full. Upon calling back to ask about another TZ flight I found out that the previous WN rep had lied; she had no possible way to check TZ loads and could not have put me on their flights anyways.

[Posted to TravelBuzz because it’s about the general idea of the cancellation.]
