How many delays in a week?

I think I hit my new record in total count of delays that affected my travel within a week! :)

In the last 7 days, I flew 11 flights: SJC-LAX-SJC, SFO-IAD-PIT-IAD-SFO, SFO-(ORD)IAD-YYZ-ORD-SFO, SFO-JFK.

Out of these, I had 6 delayed more than 30 minutes with 2 weather, 3 mechanicals, 1 crew as reasons.

One of them was enough delayed SFO-ORD that I would have missed a connection at ORD, so they rerouted me to SFO-IAD, which was ALSO delayed, and ultimately cause a missed connection at IAD!

One of them was a 'mechanical' where maintenance had serviced the lav a bit too vigorously causing 'blue stuff' to spew everywhere soaking the carpets. They ultimately substituted another A/C.

One of them was a nice 1+ hr ATC ground hold at YYZ, causing a missed connection at ORD. Stood by and got on the next available flight which was then delayed by a mechanical; it doesn't exactly inspire confidence when the maintenance walks through the cabin with a ladder and a new flight recorder.

Last night everyone was onboard for the SFO-JFK redeye, when my email pings with a flight alert; 1+ hr delay. Sure enough, minutes later the captain comes on the PA and tells us that the First Officer 'hasn't made it' to the airport, and that another one is on his way... Did get underway a bit over 1 hr later.

Interesting week for sure!!

You know, if any other industry operated at that failure percentage, they would be bankrupt. Ohh.... wait... :(

I don't know. My son is hearing-impaired (doesn't fly), so I've done some Amtrak, and they have a lot of problems. The last trip was a couple of years ago, the longest, from DC to Chicago. On the return, there was an equipment problem, and we left really late, and then we kept getting later, because something about they weren't on their own tracks, so when they missed their slot, they had to wait for every freight train to go by.

And you think UA Easy Update is bad? We were 100 miles from DC, it was already after our arrival time, and their automated status system had us arriving half an hour late.

5 days

Over christmas 2005 I was delayed for 5 days on the same flight!
First flight on a Tuesday afternoon was delayed for weather, would have missed my connection, had to resched the next day stand by...
Ended up doing stand by for the 2nd and 3rd day with no openings.
On the 4th day I had a seat, but the flight got cancelled. No rebookings that day.
On the 5th day I finally got on the plane, we took off, and ended up circling over ORD for 1.5 hours.
Missed a connection in ORD and got a later flight, ended up back home in the early morning hours of the 6th day!

The original flight costs $225 or so, by the time I got home and done, I had collected almost $1400 worth of flight vouchers!
Total insanity!
Where was the delay? MKE to ORD :)
I couldn't drive it and pick in ORD because I had an infant with me and no car seat. No bus or shuttle had car seats available so I couldn't even make it down there.
ahhh the joys of children.
