CDG a.k.a "The First Layer of Hell"

Just flew CDG-IAH last night on C011, and it has again only reinforced my opinion on what a piece of crap that airport is. Long Lines, crowded terminals, hard to get to, etc etc etc. Mid-flight while watching "The Man" and halfway into a Grand Marnier, I had an interesting thought.

Thought = Is there anyway to fly from the U.S. direct to Orly (the other airport in Paris)

I've been to Orly before and had no issues. So the question is then, are there any non-stop flights from the United States or Canada to Orly. I would be more than happy to stop over somewhere on the way if I could fly direct to Orly instead of CDG (yes..its that bad).

Thanks for any info

I am not aware of any direct TA flights to Orly. There are however countless connection options available from almost anywhere in Europe although the gateway may be little better than CDG, LHR for example is not a haven of peace and tranquility  FRA MAD MAN spring to mind immediately

No, as ORY only serves FR domestic/ex-colonial, and European traffic.

Check your Dante; CDG is not the first circle of hell, that's limbo. It's at least the FOURTH layer. The fourth circle is where the wrathful and the sullen end up and the staff at CDG is full of people who fall into that category!

Corsair flies direct from Montreal Trudeau to Orly in the summer.

I stand corrected ;)

I've never had any problems in CDG. Certainly faster than getting into the US.

I've never had any problems flying into CDG, but it's on my list of least-favorite airports to depart from. (Too bad, as I have to do that a couple of times a year.)

Life was a lot more pleasant when Delta flew into Orly.

In the past there were nonstops to Orly. When AA started nonstop service from DFW to Paris in the 80's, they originally wanted to serve CDG but were forced by the French authorities to fly to Orly (widely considered the "stepchild" airport at the time) instead. After years of building this into a successful route, the French authorities then reversed themselves and forced them to move to CDG. I would choose Orly any day over CDG.

You mean you don't like the bus maze or terminals in BFE? I hate CDG overall as well, but I've never had any real problems. Except last week when the computers supposedly went down and I lost my original seat. Ultimately not that big of a deal.

That's interesting, the same thing happened to me on a previous trip. My ticket had the right seat, but the computer "lost it" and I had to fly CDG-EWR-IAH to get home, got an $800 voucher though :D

So you would take the Terminal 2 Customs in CDG vs. the new Terminal E customs in Houston? :td:

CDG Customs = 40min

IAH (Term E) = 3min (really)

As someone who is in and out of CDG monthly (it really feels like daily) it's really not that bad. Yes, there are areas that really do suck and sometimes you get in a line that is really slow but that can happen anywhere. Personally, after dealing with MSY while in school, and SFO growing up, there are worse places.

i will agree that cdg is horrendous! we had to truck it between what seemed like the opposite sides of the airport to make a connection. to only wait in a bus for 30 mins. then be carted off another 10 minutes. what i did see were a bunch of pigs getting put into a cargo container. PIGS FLEW!!! at CDG!

Does that explain the smell on intra-europe AF flights?
