Rozerem for jet lag?

Anyone used the newly approved anti-insomnia med Rozerem for flying? This medication apparently works directly on the melatonin recepter; a different mechanism than any other sleeper. As per my understanding of physiology, the melatonin system is related to circadean rhythms and the internal clock. For this reason, affecting this system would theoretically be a great way to deal with the effects of travel across time zones. Also, this med is not a controlled substance. Said to be completely non-addictive and with no potential for abuse. (yeah, right)

My experience is that it also has no potential to put me to sleep. When I got a sample of the stuff, I was really happy to try something new, and the next day, after constantly waking up on and off all night, I was miserable. The MD who gave me the sample said that his patients' results aren't generally very good. YSMV.

My doc gave me a sample - and I usually take temazepam during the flights.

he specifcally told me it was for the first night at the destination to adjust your body to a new cycle - it will not put you to sleep - but allow your body to think it's time to sleep.

I thought it definitely helped - although not foolproof.
