I mus admitt that the US immigration changed over time. I have two passports, and one I use only for the US. I actually like it if they are generous with the space of the pages (for IRS reasons) but nowadays they manage to stamp ten to fifteen stamps on one page (over eachotehr) espcially since they changed from red to blue ink....

Boooo to US Immigration/Customs --- I find them particularly annoying. While I understand that they're doing their jobs and have to keep the airport/country safe from terrorism, illegal entry, drugs etc...but why is it that they treat everyone but I mean absolutely EVERYONE like a common criminal? You know what you should do next time you approach the desk with your partner? Just tell them you're brothers (or sisters...sorry I don't know your gender) even if you have different surnames especially if you're living under the same roof. They'd never know the difference anyway.

Most of the time we are asked "Are you family, with one form - if not, one of you has to step back and wait until I complete the first person's entry and then I'll call up the second person." Sometimes this is said nicely (and almost apologetically) and sometimes very harshly. I think I have been selected for agricultural screening once when we both went up together, because all I had with me was chocolates in a wrapped & sealed box - even the customs/agriculture inspector said "you should not have been sent here."

Of course, if we were allowed to marry each other, we would be "family," have one form and be able to be admitted back to the US together. BUT WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MARRY, so we find this process very annoying and unpleasant every time we come back home.

The 1, 2 or 3 refer to the amount of people covered by the customs form. I learned this when a sleepy idiot agent makred us a TWO when we were THREE and were then sent to secondary and asked ten times where our "other" form was. The only way out of such a mess was to go back upstairs to the same agent who made the mistake and have him stamp and change the form to a "3".

One of these geniouses actually stamped the photo page in a previous passport.
